Daiso, a uniform-priced lifestyle goods store, will expand its sales of health functional foods.
According to Asung Daiso, the operator of Daiso, starting from the 24th, it will begin selling nutritional supplements and other health functional foods at 200 stores. Products such as lutein, omega-3, and vitamin D are representative.
Currently, Daewoong Pharmaceutical and other pharmaceutical companies have stores at Daiso, selling non-prescription drugs, but this is the first time for health functional foods to be sold.
Earlier, Daiso conducted a temporary test sale on the 14th at its directly operated store at Maebong Station.
Daiso's handling of health functional foods is interpreted as a strategy to increase sales volume. According to the Korea Health Supplements Association, the domestic health functional foods market size recorded 6.04 trillion won last year. This marks a 16.8% increase compared to four years ago in 2021.
Competition with Olive Young is also expected to expand in the future. Olive Young is currently aiming for a health and beauty 'lifestyle platform' while increasing its items, including health functional foods. Following beauty products, the front line with Daiso is expanding to health functional foods as well. Both companies are estimated to have surpassed 4 trillion won in sales last year.
