Seoul Asan Medical Center urged caution regarding the consumption of high-calorie foods that can lead to obesity and metabolic diseases during the holidays.
On the 24th, Seoul Asan Medical Center released a list of the top 10 most fattening foods ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday on its official social media.
The number one high-calorie food to watch out for during the holidays is 'Yakgwa,' which contains about 420 kcal based on 100 grams (2-3 pieces). It is followed by 'tteokgalbi' (about 350 kcal per 100 grams) and 'sogalbijjim' (about 340 kcal per 100 grams), which ranked second and third, respectively.
'Kkochi-jeon' ranked fourth with about 320 kcal per 100 grams. 'Japchae' (about 310 kcal per 100 grams) came in fifth, and 'donggeurangtteong' (about 309 kcal per 100 grams) ranked sixth.
In seventh place is 'bulgogi' with about 270 kcal per 100 grams. Eighth is 'dwaeji-galbijjim' (about 250 kcal per 100 grams), ninth is 'tteok-mandu-guk' (about 210 kcal per 100 grams), and tenth is '3-color namul' with about 142 kcal per 100 grams.
The nutrition team at Seoul Asan Medical Center noted, "Lunar New Year foods are delicious, but most are high in calories. Particularly, foods like jeon and galbijjim are high in fat and sugar, causing calories to explode."
To escape from the high-calorie bomb of holiday foods, the following methods were recommended: ▲ Use an air fryer instead of frying various jeon in oil ▲ Reduce sugar in galbijjim and use vegetables or fruits ▲ Slightly reduce the amounts of tteok and mandu in 'tteok-mandu-guk' while adding mushrooms and zucchini ▲ Eat vegetables like namul first to promote fullness ▲ Serve food on individual plates and eat slowly ▲ After the Lunar New Year, engage in light exercise to burn off accumulated calories and recover the body with a low-sodium and vegetable-centric diet.
