The delivery platform Coupang Eats has entered Japan.
According to the industry on the 21st, Coupang Eats recently established a subsidiary in Japan and began trial operations on the 14th in Minato Ward, Tokyo. The service name is 'Rocket Now', and it has been hiring delivery riders since the 5th.
Minato Ward, where Coupang Eats has launched its trial operations, is a central area of Tokyo, known for its embassies, corporate headquarters, and luxury apartments. Industry observers speculate that Coupang Eats will decide on business expansion after conducting trial operations in the heart of Tokyo.
Earlier, Coupang entered the Japanese market in June 2021 but exited two years later. The first attempt was in the delivery service sector. It introduced 'quick commerce', delivering items within 10 minutes, but it failed to penetrate the Japanese market. It is interpreted that Coupang is now taking on a new challenge with food delivery, which requires less expense compared to the large-scale logistics investment needed for quick commerce.
