Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, convenience stores are introducing lunch box products for single-person households.
On the 19th, Seven Eleven announced it will release a Lunar New Year special lunch box in collaboration with Korea's 16th culinary master, Chef An Yoo-sung, on the 22nd. The traditional Korean lunch box features 'An Yoo-sung's garlic rib set meal,' centered around 'garlic-marinated ribs,' a signature dish from Chef An's 'Jangsu Hall.'
This is the first time Seven Eleven has enhanced taste and quality by collaborating with a star chef for its holiday lunch boxes. Seven Eleven also introduced 'New Year fortune rice cake soup' and 'Seven Select rice bone soup' as holiday convenient meals.
Seven Eleven expects demand for easy meals will increase during this year's Lunar New Year holiday period, where customers can take up to 9 days off. According to Seven Eleven, lunch box sales during last year's Lunar New Year holiday (Feb. 9-12) increased by nearly 10% compared to the previous year's holiday (Jan. 21-24).
Emart24 is introducing a holiday lunch box in collaboration with Netmarble's mobile casual board game 'Everyone's Marble' for the Lunar New Year. The products being launched this time include 'beef bulgogi rice cake soup' and 'rice cake soup and assorted pancakes.' The holiday lunch boxes come with item coupons that can be used within the Everyone's Marble game. Customers can enjoy the game on a special map featuring the Emart24 logo until the 28th of next month.
Emart24 is offering a 30% discount on purchases made with event cards (BC, NongHyup, Hana Card) until the 31st of this month.
An Emart24 official noted, 'We were inspired by the idea that holidays evoke activities everyone can enjoy, so we decided to collaborate with the mobile game 'Everyone's Marble,' which can be considered a modern version of play.'
CU has launched a '11-type holiday lunch box' filled with jeon, japchae, seasoned vegetables, pork bulgogi, and dessert rice cakes. Every year, CU has released convenient meals for the holiday, such as beef bulgogi lunch boxes and assorted pancake lunch boxes. These products have been popular enough to consistently secure the top spot in sales for single convenient dishes on the days of the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.
CU believes that due to the price increases over the past few years, convenience store easy meals will become the main choice for customers looking for cost-effective options during the holiday.
