An affiliate of Aekyung Group, the parent company of Jeju Air, visited the Muan International Airport on the 4th to apologize to the victims' families for holding an end-of-year event during the national mourning period following the passenger plane tragedy.
Go Jun, CEO of AK Holdings, stood before the gathered family members on the second floor of the waiting area and said, “The hotel where the year-end ceremony was held is being operated under a contract with an external agency, but the management responsibility clearly lies with us, especially with me,” adding that “all reports regarding the event, including the raffle, are true.”
He stated, “I came here to apologize with a heavy heart,” and added, “All responsibility lies with me for mismanaging Aekyung Group, and I deeply apologize again,” bowing his head. He also mentioned that he would take full responsibility if such an incident recurs in the future.
The family members quietly observed CEO Go's apology before departing. There were no family members who protested or raised their voices.
An affiliate of Aekyung Group held a year-end ceremony at a four-star hotel in Paldal District, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, at 3 p.m. on the 31st, two days after the tragedy. Attendees at the event were seen laughing and cheering while participating in a birthday event, lucky draw, and cake cutting, which drew criticism.
