Isaac Andik, the founder of the Spanish fashion brand Mango, has passed away at the age of 71 due to a mountain accident on the 14th, according to the British daily The Guardian.
According to The Guardian, Andik died after slipping from a cliff 150 meters high while hiking with relatives in the Montserrat caves near Barcelona, Spain. Reports say that Andik's son was also present at the scene at the time of the accident.
Andik, of Jewish descent, was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1953 and moved to Spain with his family at the age of 13. He showed business acumen by selling T-shirts to classmates during his high school years in Barcelona and opened the first Mango store in 1984 after engaging in the clothing wholesale business.
As of last year, Mango has expanded to over 120 countries with annual sales reaching 3.1 billion euros (approximately 4.7 trillion won). According to Forbes, Andik's net worth was $4.5 billion (approximately 6.5 trillion won), and he also served as the non-executive chairman of Mango.
Tony Louis, the CEO of Mango, expressed, "I regret to convey the news of Andik's unexpected passing," stating, "He dedicated his life to Mango and served as an example to all." Louis added, "Andik's strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and unwavering commitment to values left an indelible mark on Mango, and making Mango a source of his pride is the highest tribute we can offer."
Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, also noted on social media, "He transformed Spanish brands into global fashion leaders with his business vision and efforts."
