A large "urban forest" and citizen rest area will be created at the Hyundai Motor site special planning zone complex (GBC) in Samseong-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said on the 9th that it passed the "GBC new construction project" agenda with this content at the 16th Architecture Committee on the 8th. GBC will consist of three buildings from eight floors underground to a maximum of 49 floors above ground. It will house office, cultural, retail, and lodging facilities.
A new pedestrian axis will also be built by organically linking the ground plaza around Yeongdong-daero and the underground integrated transfer center. An 11,000-square-meter urban forest, "Great Park," will be created in the ground plaza. By connecting surrounding walkways and cultural facilities, the city plans to create a space where citizens can enjoy various events and relax.
A complex cultural facility will also be prepared, including an exhibition hall to showcase basic science content and a performance hall with up to 2,000 seats. On the roof, a 13,000-square-meter "podium rooftop garden" accessible by four direct elevators will be built.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said, "Through this plan change, by expanding the large urban forest and rooftop garden, an experiential science museum and performance hall, GBC will establish itself as a global business and cultural hub and a new landmark."
The committee also passed the agenda item "New construction of a tourist lodging facility at 702-24, Yeoksam-dong." The plan is to build a tourist lodging facility with three floors underground and 25 floors above ground in the area near Teheran-ro, providing a total of 85 rooms. The lower floors will place street-activating facilities such as an open lounge, and the upper floors will house tourist lodging facilities including guest rooms, restaurants, and a swimming pool.
The Gwangun University Station area long-term jeonse housing construction project also passed committee deliberation, and accordingly, a total of 263 dwellings, including 75 public rental dwellings, will be supplied in the area of 383-40, Wolgye-dong, Nowon District.
