Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) said on the 8th that it will introduce a "real-time electronic braille service" to LH Subscription Plus, a public subscription platform, to improve access to subscription information for people with visual impairments.
Until now, people with visual impairments have mainly used "screen readers," which read on-screen text aloud, to check information. However, because subscription notices contain many complex numbers and tables—such as income and asset criteria, subscription additional-point scores, and supply volume by unit size—it has been difficult to grasp the content accurately through audio alone.
In response, LH introduced a "real-time electronic braille service" that converts various subscription information posted on the LH Subscription Plus website into braille and audio.
When users press the "braille viewer" button at the top of the notice page, the on-screen text and table data are instantly translated according to the Korean braille standard. Users can download the file, send it to a personal braille information terminal to read by touch, or print it with a braille printer for review.
An LH official said, "We will continue to carefully address information blind spots and keep improving the system so that everyone can access subscription information without difficulty."
