Hyundai Engineering & Construction and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) will develop safety technologies and design and operation standards to introduce future mobility in multifamily housing complexes.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction said on the 8th that it signed a "memorandum of understanding (MOU) for collaboration on pilot tests of safety technologies responding to future mobility in multifamily housing complexes" with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) at the Westin Chosun Seoul on the 7th.
Attending the signing were Kim Jae-young, head of HMG Construction Technology Research Institute, a combined research and development (R&D) organization of Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Engineering, Song Myung-jun, head of the infrastructure and urban research office, and Min Seung-gi, head of the mobility division at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS).
The two sides will jointly study safe complex operation plans for modes being introduced into multifamily housing, including demand-responsive transport (DRT), delivery and service robots, and personal mobility (PM).
Specifically, they will pursue: ▲ joint research on ways to enhance future mobility safety within multifamily housing ▲ identification of traffic safety improvements following the introduction of future mobility ▲ review of road environment enhancements using Software Defined Road (SDR) technologies.
During the research, they will analyze internal roads and pedestrian flows, pick-up/drop-off and waiting areas, and operating systems by mode, and verify the applicability of technologies through pilot tests in real residential environments.
Based on the findings, Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to establish a pedestrian-centered traffic system within complexes and improve road and flow design by using mobility operation and space-use data.
Going forward, it will also prepare design and operation standards that reflect operating characteristics by mode from the planning and design stages of multifamily housing. Based on this, it plans to develop a mobility infrastructure model applicable to multifamily housing and Smart City projects.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "As diverse mobility services enter residential complexes, the importance of space planning and operating systems that allow pedestrians and mobility modes to coexist in harmony is growing," adding, "Through joint research and pilot tests with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), we will establish a safe and efficient movement environment and systematize design and operation standards for multifamily housing that consider future mobility."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Engineering & Construction is also promoting a pilot project for parking robots in multifamily housing with Hyundai Motor and Hyundai WIA. It is conducting research to establish deployment and operation standards for parking robots using data collected in real residential environments and to link these with complex space planning.
