The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 4th that, together with the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL), it will hold a "construction fall-accident prevention content contest" to spread safety awareness at construction sites and to identify practical ideas and best practices for preventing falls.
The event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL), and co-organized by the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS), Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA), Korea Construction Engineers Association, and Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association (CW).
Open to any citizen of Korea, the contest is divided into two categories: "promotional video (short form)" and "policy proposals and best practices." For the video category, entrants should submit a video of up to 3 minutes that clearly conveys fall-prevention rules or warnings about hazards in an easy-to-understand way.
Applications can be submitted online through the dedicated website from the 14th to Oct. 13. Submitted works will undergo expert review and a public verification stage to detect plagiarism, after which the final winners will be selected.
The award ceremony is scheduled for December, with prizes to be given to a total of 16 works. Four grand prize winners will receive Minister awards from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL), along with 5 million won each. Twelve excellence awards will be presented by the heads of the organizing institutions, with 1 million won each.
A Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) official said, "To reduce fall accidents, which account for the largest share of fatal accidents at construction sites, the attention and participation of the government, sites, and the public are all necessary," adding, "We will actively reflect feasible ideas identified through this contest in government policy, and we will also broadly promote the promotional videos (short form) and best practices so they are used on site."
