Samsung C&T's construction division (hereinafter Samsung C&T) said on the 3rd it will work with global architecture firm SMDP to bid for the Mok-dong District 13 reconstruction and maintenance project in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul.
The Mok-dong District 13 reconstruction will redevelop the existing 2,280-apartment complex on a 178,919㎡ site at 327 Sinjeong-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, into 3,852 homes in buildings from four floors underground to 49 floors above ground. The estimated construction cost is about 2.3763 trillion won.
SMDP, headquartered in Chicago, is a design firm focused on global mixed-use urban developments and high-end residential facilities. In Korea, it took part in creating high-end residential complexes such as "Raemian One Bailey," "Nine One Hannam," and "ACRO Seoul Forest."
The two companies are collaborating on the Shinbanpo 4th reconstruction project, for which Samsung C&T secured construction rights last year, and were recently selected as the builder in the Shinbanpo 19th and 25th reconstruction projects after proposing top-tier designs and project terms.
At Mok-dong District 13, they plan to strengthen their partnership based on past collaboration experience and present a landmark design that represents Mok-dong.
Under the maintenance plan, Mok-dong District 13 is slated for a maximum height of 156 meters and 49 floors. The two companies are considering optimal residential conditions, including structural safety as well as natural light, views, and privacy, and are planning a skyline suited to the site and scale of the complex.
They also aim to propose a differentiated landmark that will shape a new urban landscape for Mok-dong, with specialized facades that enhance symbolism and a high-end community. In particular, they plan to actively leverage the site's openness to the south in the design so that every association member can fully enjoy unobstructed views of nearby natural scenery such as Anyangcheon and Maebongsan.
Im Cheol-jin, head of Samsung C&T's dwellings sales division, said, "Mok-dong District 13 is a strategic stronghold with high symbolism and ripple effects across the entire Mok-dong reconstruction, so we will mobilize our companywide capabilities to create a landmark that represents all of Mok-dong."
