Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on the 3rd it will collaborate with global landscape and urban design group STOSS to win the reconstruction project for the Sinwol Siyoung Apartments in Yangcheon District, Seoul. The Sinwol Siyoung Apartment reconstruction project will rebuild the existing 2,256-unit complex at 987-1 Sinwol-dong, Yangcheon District, into 3,155 units across up to 21 floors.
Founded in 2001 in Boston, STOSS operates studios in Boston and Los Angeles (LA). It is regarded as a world-class design firm in the field of "landscape urbanism," a design approach that views landscaping not as mere decoration around buildings but as core infrastructure that shapes and operates the city.
STOSS proposed "Sinwol Eight Scenes (新月八景)" as the specialized landscape concept for the Sinwol Siyoung reconstruction project. The core idea is to reinterpret the beautiful natural scenery of the Yangcheon area from the Joseon era in a contemporary way and create eight garden landscapes throughout the complex, each with its own distinct appeal.
At the center of the complex will be "Luminous Stream," a water feature blended with art installations, and "Waterfall Valley," a resort-style water valley space. Alongside these will be "Wellness Garden," where residents can enjoy nature year-round, "Terra Play Garden," which combines creative play and art, and "Foret Lounge," offering forest-style relaxation.
In particular, the eight specialized gardens are connected by four themed walking trails—"Blooming Gallery Walk," "Green Gallery Walk," "Healing Walk," and "Foret Walk"—and a 6-kilometer circular pedestrian network is established so residents can experience the entire complex as one vast garden.
A Daewoo Engineering & Construction official said, "Through our collaboration with STOSS, we plan to deliver differentiated landscape value to the Sinwol Siyoung reconstruction project," adding, "We will create a landmark residential complex where nature, art, and community are in harmony, providing union members with a new living experience and pride."
