Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on the 1st it will work with the Denmark-based global urban architecture design group Urban Agency to lead the exterior design for the Mok-dong District 8 redevelopment project.
Urban Agency is a global design firm that has carried out design projects spanning cities, architecture and public spaces. Daewoo Engineering & Construction plans to combine Urban Agency's design capabilities with its own know-how in developing and building residential products to deliver a distinctive exterior design unique to Mok-dong District 8.
Design and urban renewal staff at Daewoo Engineering & Construction toured the Mok-dong District 8 site in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, on the 28th with visiting Urban Agency officials from Denmark, analyzed the site's location and surrounding urban environment, and discussed directions for collaboration on a landmark design.
Urban Agency proposed "Infinite Prism" as the core concept for the exterior design of Mok-dong District 8. Co-founder Henning Stüben, who visited Korea for this project, said, "Like a prism that expands a single beam of light into a vibrant spectrum, we aim to reflect Mok-dong's diverse values and residents' lifestyles in the architecture, and add the flexibility and continuity implied by 'Infinity' to realize a residential space that grows in value over time."
For Mok-dong District 8, Daewoo Engineering & Construction is also collaborating with the U.K.-based global engineering company ARUP on structural design and with New York-based Supermass Studio on landscaping.
