SK ecoplant said on the 27th it will merge its subsidiary SK Ecoengineering. The decision aims to leap forward as an "AI infra solution provider."
SK ecopplant disclosed the same day it will absorb and merge its 100% subsidiary SK Ecoengineering. The merger date is Dec. 1.
The company said it decided on the merger to streamline management and maximize synergies in the AI infrastructure business. It plans to integrate in‑house project execution capabilities to respond to the recent surge in new facility investment and expansions, including semiconductor fabrication plants (FABs) and AI data centers.
With this merger, SK ecoplant will internalize the engineering capabilities held by SK Ecoengineering. SK Ecoengineering has carried out energy infrastructure projects such as combined-cycle, cogeneration, and terminals at home and abroad, and advanced industrial plants including batteries, lithium-ion battery separators (LiBS), and bio.
In particular, the company noted that because building AI data centers and semiconductor fabs requires the entire process—from initial planning to final completion—to be organically connected, collaboration is expected to deliver strong results.
If SK Ecoengineering's plant and advanced industrial facility engineering capabilities are combined with SK ecoplant's construction and project management capabilities, cost and schedule can be managed in an integrated way from the project's outset, boosting both order-winning competitiveness and profitability.
A SK ecoplant official said it is a "strategic choice to cement our position as a key partner in the AI infrastructure ecosystem," adding, "We will accelerate our transition to an 'AI infra solution' corporations based on integrated synergies and strengthen AI infrastructure order-taking competitiveness to continue revenue-centered growth."
