Minister Kim Yun-duk of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 26th that the idea of supplying dwellings to Yongsan Children's Garden "has never been discussed."
At a comprehensive policy inquiry of the National Assembly Special Committee on Budget & Accounts that day, Minister Kim answered a question from People Power Party lawmaker Cho Bae-sook, who said there was "talk of building dwellings in the Children's Garden," by saying, "That is not true."
Minister Kim said, "There has never been any discussion so far that we must build houses in the Children's Garden," and added, "The position of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) is that we need to go through a public debate process on the issue of supplying dwellings only in damaged areas within Yongsan Park."
Minister Kim also said of Blue House Senior Secretary for Economic Growth Ha Jun-kyung's comment that "there are not many people in the Children's Garden," "It is a significant over-interpretation to think that statement means building houses in the Children's Garden."
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) holds the view that it is not developing the entire Yongsan Park, but could supply youth and newlywed dwellings in certain areas where existing officers' housing and a hospital once stood.
