Daewoo Engineering & Construction has been selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project in Mozambique, Africa. Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on the 7th that the SMDC joint venture (JV), in which it is participating as the prime contractor, has been selected as the midstream engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for Mozambique's "Rovuma LNG phase 1" project. The SMDC JV includes Saipem of Italy, McDermott of the United States, CPECC of China, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction.
The project involves building liquefaction facilities capable of producing 18.6 million tons (t) of LNG annually, a large combined cycle gas turbine power plant for electricity supply to drive the facilities with electric motors instead of gas turbines, and other auxiliary infrastructure.
On the 5th, Daewoo Engineering & Construction received a letter of intent (LOI) for the "Rovuma LNG phase 1" project from ExxonMobil Mozambique, the representative company of the project owner for Mozambique's "Rovuma LNG phase 1." The letter of intent is for carrying out front-end design refinement, major equipment procurement, and constructability reviews ahead of groundbreaking that will proceed after the final investment decision (FID). Based on this, ExxonMobil Mozambique plans to sign the main EPC contract and begin construction by the end of this year.
