With the dismissal of the head of the committee to establish a union at the Olympic Athletes and Press Village Apartment, a flagship redevelopment complex in Songpa District, Seoul, an acting representative system for the committee has been formalized.
According to industry sources on the 7th, the Songpa District Office's Dwellings Business Division recently sent an official letter titled "Notification of representative of the committee to establish a union" to the committee to establish a union for the Olympic Athletes and Press Village Apartment redevelopment and maintenance project. Through the letter, the Songpa District Office explained, "In connection with the dismissal of the Chairperson, under Article 17, Paragraph 6 of the operating regulations of the committee to establish a union for the Olympic Athletes and Press Village Apartment redevelopment and maintenance project, the committee may be represented by commissioners in order of seniority."
The district office then officially notified that Kim Yun-su, born in 1947 and the most senior among the commissioners, may represent the committee. In addition, as the guiding and supervisory authority, Songpa District urged, "Convene a residents' general meeting as soon as possible so that a (new) Chairperson can be appointed."
With this measure, the Olympic Athletes and Press Village redevelopment project is expected to reorganize its leadership under a seniority-based representative system and speed up preparations for a residents' general meeting to elect the next Chairperson.
The Olympic Athletes and Press Village Apartment is a 5,540-household complex built as accommodations for athletes and press during the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Along with Olympic Family Town and the Asia Athletes' Village, it is considered one of Songpa District's so-called "three major Olympic redevelopment complexes." Redevelopment is underway under a fast-track integrated planning advisory method, and plans are being reviewed to transform it into an extra-large complex of about 9,200 households with 45 to 49 stories at the highest.
Previously, at a committee meeting held on June 25, former committee Chairperson Yoo Sang-geun of the Olympic Athletes and Press Village Apartment redevelopment saw an agenda item for dismissal and suspension from duties pass with 88 of 111 total members in attendance and, excluding auditors, 85 in favor (98.8%), 0 against, and 1 abstention out of 86 with substantive voting rights. Former Chairperson Yoo has argued that it is difficult to recognize the validity of the dismissal, saying the related documents were not officially delivered.
