Samsung C&T ranked No. 1 for the 13th straight year in the 2026 construction capability evaluation. Hyundai Engineering & Construction held No. 2, and GS Engineering & Construction rose to No. 3.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 30th that, based on general civil engineering and building construction, Samsung C&T ranked No. 1 with a construction capability evaluation amount of 34.8785 trillion won in the 2026 evaluation conducted on construction companies nationwide.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction ranked No. 2 with 18.2714 trillion won, and GS Engineering & Construction ranked No. 3 with 11.0668 trillion won.
The construction capability evaluation is a system that publicly discloses a comprehensive assessment of construction performance, financial condition, technical capability, and creditworthiness. This year, 74,332 construction companies applied for and were evaluated, accounting for 84.1% of all construction companies (88,424). The results are used for public project bidding qualifications, selection of contractors for private reconstruction and redevelopment, credit ratings, and guarantee reviews.
By project type, last year's performance shows Hyundai Engineering & Construction ranked No. 1 in civil and building with 10.9 trillion won. Samsung C&T followed with 9.7 trillion won, and Hyundai Engineering with 7.8 trillion won.
In civil engineering, Daewoo Engineering & Construction ranked No. 1 with 1.8 trillion won, followed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction with 1.6 trillion won and GS Engineering & Construction with 1.3 trillion won. In building, Hyundai Engineering & Construction ranked No. 1 with 9.3 trillion won, followed by Samsung C&T with 8.6 trillion won and Hyundai Engineering with 7.3 trillion won.
In industrial and environmental facilities, Samsung E&A ranked No. 1 with 7.4 trillion won. Hyundai Engineering & Construction posted 4.4 trillion won, and Samsung C&T posted 3.3 trillion won. In landscaping, WOOMI Construction Co. ranked No. 1 with 91.8 billion won, and Samsung C&T ranked No. 2 with 89.8 billion won.
By major detailed project type, in road construction GS Engineering & Construction ranked No. 1 with 838.2 billion won. In rail construction, POSCO E&C posted the highest at 341.5 billion won.
In apartment construction performance, Hyundai Engineering & Construction led with 7 trillion won, followed by GS Engineering & Construction with 5.9 trillion won and Lotte Engineering & Construction with 4.6 trillion won.
This year's construction capability evaluation results take effect starting Aug. 1.
