The number of real estate owners in Seoul under foreign names increased by more than 1,000 over the past year.
As analyzed by real estate platform Jippoom on the Supreme Court Registration Information Plaza's "real estate registration ownership status (Koreans, foreigners, corporations, etc.)" data on the 28th, the number of real estate owners in Seoul under foreign names stood at 32,870 in June 2026. That was up 1,058, or 3.3%, from 31,812 in June last year. Over the same period, the number of real estate owners under Korean names rose by 38,509, or 1.0%, from 3,899,938 to 3,938,447.
In the ownership status of real estate registrations, owners are categorized by the registered titleholder as Korean, foreigner, or corporation, and the number of owners is tallied monthly. Accordingly, the number of owners may differ from the number of properties.
By district, among the 25 autonomous districts, Gangnam District had the most foreign real estate owners at 3,440. It was followed by Guro District with 2,710, Seocho District with 2,353, Yeongdeungpo District with 2,112, and Songpa District with 1,913. Gangnam District increased by 30 from the same month a year earlier, and Guro District increased by 75.
Year-over-year, Gangseo District saw the largest increase in foreign owners, rising by 87 from 1,456 to 1,543. Geumcheon District rose by 85 from 1,826 to 1,911, and Yongsan District rose by 81 from 1,768 to 1,849. Yeongdeungpo District and Guro District also increased by 76 and 75, respectively.
Over the same period, the largest increase in the number of real estate owners under Korean names was in Gangdong District, up 7,754 from 180,286 to 188,040. Eunpyeong District increased by 3,779, Dongjak District by 3,731, Seongdong District by 2,589, and Mapo District by 2,143. By contrast, Geumcheon District fell by 445, Gangnam District by 255, and Songpa District by 128.
