Hoban Construction said on the 28th that it developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology that automatically calculates ready-mix concrete quantities and is applying it at pilot sites.
With this technology, AI analyzes drawings uploaded to a server, and when a field engineer marks the pour sections, it automatically calculates the required amount of ready-mix concrete.
The results can be checked by quantity for each structural element—such as floors, columns, and beams—and by ready-mix concrete strength.
Previously, a field engineer checked the drawings and manually calculated the ready-mix concrete amount for each pour section. Hoban Construction expects the automatic calculation technology to reduce work time and improve the accuracy of ready-mix concrete orders.
Hoban Construction is conducting technology verification throughout July at two Hoban Summit sites. After refining features based on field feedback, it plans to expand application to all sites starting in August.
Hoban Construction also developed an AI-based automatic window quantity takeoff technology last year and applied it at sites. The technology cut the quantity takeoff and ordering tasks, which previously took more than three days, to about half a day.
A Hoban Construction official said, "We will expand the application of AI technologies that can reduce the burden of field work and improve the accuracy of schedule and cost management."
