Lee Chang-mu, a professor in the Department of Urban Engineering at Hanyang University, has been designated as Seoul's chief general planner.
According to the industry on the 2nd, the Seoul city government reorganized the existing chief architect system into a chief general planner system and appointed Lee as the new chief general planner.
While the former chief architect focused on advising on architecture and public spaces, the chief general planner will handle a spatial strategy that also covers urban planning, dwellings, transportation, and industrial functions. Lee is an expert in urban engineering and urban planning.
Meanwhile, the current chief architect, Kang Byung-geun, is expected to continue advising on the overall spatial environment projects of the Seoul city government after retirement in the form of "Chief Architect Partners."
