Korea's cement industry moved to work with Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) to secure low-carbon cement technology and strengthen quality competitiveness.
The Korea Cement Association said on the 30th that it signed a "business agreement for low-carbon transition of the cement industry and strengthening technological competitiveness" with Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) at KCL's Seocho office.
Association President Jeon Geun-sik and KCL President Cheon Young-gil, among other officials from both organizations, attended the signing.
Through the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate on jointly identifying and carrying out national research and development (R&D) projects to realize resource circulation and carbon neutrality; developing and standardizing testing and evaluation technologies for new processes and new products; and holding seminars and joint symposiums to advance quality control for cement and ready-mixed concrete.
They also plan to pursue cooperation in the digital transformation of production processes, including building a cement quality control system using artificial intelligence (AI) and AI transformation (AX).
The Korea Cement Association plans to support member companies so they can participate in joint research and development (R&D), demonstration studies, and testing and evaluation, depending on the characteristics of each business and their capacity to take part.
Kim Ui-cheol, head of the Technology and Quality Center at the Korea Cement Association, said, "We will push demonstration studies focusing on areas where verification of technological applicability and quality reliability is needed, and we plan to cooperate so that the demonstration results can lead to testing, evaluation, and standardization discussions," adding, "The ongoing joint study on cement safety and the standardization study on concrete chlorides are also part of this cooperation."
