Seoul city said on the 24th that the "Wangsimni Station station area activation project" passed architectural review at the 10th Architecture Committee meeting.
According to the city, a tourism and culture complex with eight underground floors and 31 aboveground floors will be built around 293-11, Haengdang-dong, Seongdong District, the project site. The total floor area is about 68,000 square meters.
The site will include 242 hotel rooms and a public exhibition facility. A "public open space" will also be created to provide a rest area for residents, and a public parking lot will be built underground so both local residents and visitors can use it.
Choi Jin-seok, Seoul city head of the Housing Bureau, said, "This project takes advantage of the locational strengths of the Wangsimni metropolitan hub to expand tourist accommodation and cultural and public facilities together," and added, "We will support the project so it can provide open space for citizens and contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
