Koramco Asset Management and DCI Data Center, a subsidiary of global infrastructure manager Brookfield, have begun building a 40MW artificial intelligence (AI) data center in the Siwha National Industrial Complex in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.
Koramco said on the 8th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the "Ansan Siwha AI Data Center (SEL02)" at the construction site in Seonggok-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, with about 120 officials in attendance.
About 120 officials from related institutions and project stakeholders attended the event, including Kim Tae-won, CEO of Koramco Asset Management, and Kang Seong-su, head of DCI Korea. The event included a project progress report, congratulatory remarks, a commemorative shovel ceremony, and a safety prayer ritual.
The new center will be a Tier 3 facility built on a site of about 10,448 square meters within the Siwha National Industrial Complex, with a total floor area of 26,810 square meters (about 8,110 pyeong). The area has well-established power and telecommunications infrastructure and is close to major roads, making it a key hub for the southwestern region. The two companies said the center will be designed as a customized space optimized for high-performance computing by adopting dualized power lines for stable large-scale power supply and high-efficiency cooling systems.
DCI will lead the entire process from data center design to long-term operations after completion, along with capital investment. Koramco will establish a project financing vehicle (PFV) to raise funds and, as the asset management company, will oversee the overall project, including financial structuring and construction management.
Koramco said the groundbreaking marks a shift in its digital infrastructure business from the conceptual stage to actual supply. Having already completed and operating the "K Square Data Center Gasan" in Gasan-dong, Seoul, Koramco is preparing to build a 100MW complex data center in Uijeongbu Rhythm City following the Ansan center.
Koramco CEO Kim Tae-won said, "The groundbreaking for the Ansan Siwha data center is an important step in turning Koramco's digital infrastructure investment strategy into real business results," adding, "Based on the development and operation experience secured at the Gasan data center and DCI's global expertise, we will complete this project as a competitive asset that meets domestic AI infrastructure demand."
