GS Engineering & Construction has been selected as the new contractor for the Sangdaewon District 2 redevelopment project in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, a project worth 1 trillion won.
The Sangdaewon District 2 redevelopment association held a general meeting on the 30th and approved the termination of its contract with existing contractor DL E&C and the selection of GS Engineering & Construction as the new contractor. Of the 2,268 members in total, 1,154 attended, and 1,108, or 96% of those present, voted in favor of the agenda item.
The Sangdaewon District 2 redevelopment calls for building 4,885 households in 43 buildings with 29 floors above ground in the 3910 area of Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon District.
Earlier, the association selected DL E&C as the contractor in 2015 and signed a lump-sum contract applying the "e-Pyeonhansesang" brand, but clashed with the contractor over whether to switch to the high-end brand "ACRO." The association decided to replace the contractor and, in Apr., approved an agenda item designating GS Engineering & Construction as the preferred negotiation partner. However, a court granted an injunction to suspend the effectiveness of the decision filed by DL E&C, keeping the contractor in place.
DL E&C has said it will again pursue legal action, signaling a hard-line response.
Meanwhile, GS Engineering & Construction's backlog of orders secured in the maintenance business in the first half of this year topped 5 trillion won. The target for urban maintenance orders this year is 8 trillion won.
