Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on the 22nd that Chair Jeong Won-ju won the "Korea-Africa Contribution Award."
The award is given by the African Group of Ambassadors (AGA) in Korea to individuals who have contributed to exchanges between Korea and Africa, and it was established for the first time this year. Chair Jeong became the first recipient in recognition of contributions to expanding economic cooperation between Korea and Africa and to social contribution activities.
Presenter Shafik Hachadi, AGA Director General and Moroccan ambassador to Korea, said, "Daewoo Engineering & Construction has made great contributions to Africa's long-term development through infrastructure construction and technology cooperation across the continent for decades," adding, "We expect Chair Jeong and Daewoo Engineering & Construction to continue contributing to Africa's future development."
Chair Jeong said, "We will continue to cooperate with Africa more deeply and broadly, respect each other's future, and build a relationship of shared prosperity."
Meanwhile, Daewoo Engineering & Construction entered the African market in 1977 by winning the contract for Sudan's state guesthouse project. Afterward, beginning with Libya in 1978 and Nigeria in 1983, it expanded its business scope to 11 countries, including Liberia, Botswana, Côte d'Ivoire and Cameroon, and has carried out about 290 projects in Africa to date.
