The Seoul city government said on the 18th that from November last year to January 2026 it submitted a total of three official letters to Korea National Railway regarding missing main reinforcing bars in columns at GTX-A Samseong Station.

The city disclosed the letters, saying that in accordance with procedures under the Seoul City–Korea National Railway commissioned management agreement, it reported the supervision report that included the missing main reinforcing bars in columns through three official letters on Nov. 13, 2025, Dec. 12, 2025, and Jan. 16, 2026.

The Seoul city government said it was notified of the matter by the contractor and immediately carried out an on-site safety inspection. It added that, based on a structural safety review, the structural engineer judged that the load currently acting on the columns is at a level that the building columns can sufficiently withstand.

The city said, "With the final column reinforcement construction plan submitted by the contractor on Mar. 17, we reviewed on-site applicability and other matters, finalized the reinforcement plan in April, and shared the details with Korea National Railway on Apr. 24 and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 29th."

Earlier, Lim Chun-geun, head of the Seoul City Urban Infrastructure Headquarters, appeared before the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee and, in response to a question from Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Oh Ki-hyeong, said, "After receiving a report of the facts from the contractor (Hyundai Engineering & Construction) on Nov. 10 last year, we have been submitting monthly construction management reports under Article 10 of the entrusted agreement with Korea National Railway." He added, "We have included the matter three times in the relevant construction management reports and notified the railway corporation."
