Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on the 15th that Chief Executive Kim Bo-hyeon visited Austria and the Czech Republic from the 11th to the 14th to strengthen cooperation on new nuclear power plant projects and carry out activities to coexist with local communities.
On the 13th, Kim visited Náměšť nad Oslavou, a local government near the planned Czech nuclear plant site, and donated a specially built fire engine. At the donation ceremony were Mayor Cek Jan Kotácka of Náměšť nad Oslavou, along with a regional member of the lower house, volunteer firefighters, Hong Young-gi, Korea's ambassador to the Czech Republic, officials from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP), and officials from Doosan Enerbility.
The donation of the fire engine was decided in Sept. 2024 due to the need to strengthen the region's firefighting infrastructure, and a local fire engine and special vehicle manufacturer built it to order over about 14 months.
Kim said, "We will not only successfully carry out the new Czech nuclear power project going forward, but also build a sustainable cooperative relationship based on trust with the local community."
On the 12th, Kim visited Vienna, Austria, and met with senior officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to exchange views on a wide range of topics, including the global nuclear power market, SMR development trends, and the prospects for overseas expansion of Korea's nuclear power industry.
