Hyundai Engineering & Construction will apply a large slate of future-oriented residential technologies and high-end design to the Apgujeong District 3 reconstruction project. The plan is to integrate Hyundai Motor Group's Robotics technology, an AI-based driverless shuttle, and a 1.2 km circular community to create a future-focused residential platform that goes beyond simple reconstruction.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction recently unveiled the Apgujeong District 3 promotional center in Gangnam District, Seoul. Opened on the 3rd, the center operates by advance reservation for union members and is designed to let visitors directly experience future living spaces under the vision "OWN THE ONE."
At the center of the promotional space, part of "THE CIRCLE ONE," a core proposal for Apgujeong District 3, is reproduced at a true 1:1 scale. The Circle One is a circular indoor community facility measuring 17 meters wide, 3.5 meters high, and 1.2 km in total length. With heating/cooling and air purification systems, residents can enjoy walking, running, and resting regardless of season or weather.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to link all buildings and major facilities in the complex into a single circulation to strengthen both movement efficiency and the community experience. It goes beyond a typical in-complex community to apply the concept of an "indoor city platform."
Hyundai Motor Group's advanced Robotics technologies will also be applied on a broad scale. Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to introduce an AI-based demand-responsive transport (DRT) driverless shuttle system that will generate optimal routes in real time based on resident calls and connect the interior of the complex with key living zones.
MobED, nano mobility, and the SPOT safety service robot are on display in actual form at the promotional center. The space is configured to let visitors experience the direction of future residential robot services that not only support mobility but also handle logistics, security, and safety management within the complex.
The exterior design reflects collaboration with world-class architecture groups. RAMSA, known for luxury residential design in Manhattan, New York, and Morphosis, an innovative design group, have teamed up with a strategy to capture both Apgujeong's tradition and its futuristic design.
In particular, eight buildings along the Han River will feature a "riverfront-specialized design." Each building will have a differentiated exterior and premium stone finishes to maximize the symbolic presence of the Apgujeong Han River skyline. A podium structure will be applied to the lower levels, and crystal design elements will be added to the rooftop to propose a new urban landscape.
Inside, a "canvas unit" layout has been applied. By excluding the outer walls and columns of each unit from fixed layouts, the interior space can be freely configured, allowing flexible responses to changes in residents' lifestyles.
Another feature is the placement of a total of 54 penthouse units instead of a typical sky community. In particular, a "triplex super penthouse" is planned for the 65th-floor top level to reinforce the symbolism of ultra-luxury living.
The landscaping will be created in collaboration with Gustafson Porter + Bowman (GPB), a world-renowned landscape firm, and Greenwise. The plan is to realize a three-dimensional ecological forest through about 35,700 pyeong of green space and the planting of 13,000 trees. Twelve themed courtyards will be built throughout the complex, and works by world-class artists will be installed to compose the entire complex like a single gallery.
The community facility "Club Apgujeong" is planned to span about 45,000 pyeong. It will offer premium services linked with a health management system developed in collaboration with Cha Medical Center and The Classic 500, as well as Hermès, L'Occitane, Bang & Olufsen, and Hyundai Department Store Culture Center.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "The Apgujeong District 3 promotional center is a space where you can directly experience the future residential technologies and spatial philosophy presented by Hyundai Engineering & Construction," adding, "We will create a future-oriented living platform that combines housing, culture, health, and mobility, going beyond simple reconstruction."
