Hoban Construction said on the 14th that it completed a field demonstration of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based exterior wall crack inspection robot on the 13th at a multifamily housing site in Gyeonggi Province.

The demonstration was conducted as part of an open innovation project in collaboration with FD Tech Co., selected as a promising technology company for the "AI Bridge commercialization" by the Seoul Business Agency. Hoban Construction provided a field test bed and supported technology verification.

The AI-based inspection robot examined even the internal condition of exterior walls and, through AI analysis, automatically determined whether cracks were present and identified damage locations, improving the objectivity and reliability of inspection results. In particular, it is expected to enhance on-site safety by reducing the deployment of workers for high-risk tasks.

Using close-up imaging with four cameras and nondestructive, acoustic, and ultrasonic technologies, the robot can precisely diagnose cracks and damaged areas of exterior walls. It is also easy to carry and assemble, shortening inspection preparation time.

Based on the results of this demonstration, Hoban Construction will comprehensively verify the technology's accuracy and usability and actively review on-site application plans. It will also pursue the establishment of a "crack management all-in-one (All-in-One) process" that connects crack inspection to repair through technology advancement.

A Hoban Construction official said, "We are expanding the application of smart construction technologies by discovering promising technologies through open innovation and linking them to field demonstrations," adding, "We will continue to strengthen on-site safety and construction quality through the introduction of innovative technologies."
