From innovative robot technologies that boost productivity and safety at construction sites to residential services that improve customers' quality of life, Samsung C&T is leading a paradigm shift in the future construction industry through the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and Robotics.
Samsung C&T, which won the top excellence award for three consecutive years in the safety and dwellings categories of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Smart Construction Challenge last year, is now taking the lead in building an ecosystem for housing construction robots. The "LIFE (Lifting Indicator For Excavator) and monitoring system," which won the top innovation award in the safety management category of the 2024 Smart Construction Challenge, uses a real-time monitoring system with various sensors to immediately alert users to dangerous situations during lifting and automatically prevent excessive lifting operations to avoid accidents.
When a dangerous situation occurs, not only the operator but also managers can check it in real time, and the system was developed to foster safe work habits through subsequent feedback. The "automated steel bolt tightening robot," which won the top innovation award in the dwellings category, automates fastener assembly at elevated positions during steelwork to secure worker safety, and earned high marks for technology by enabling construction with excellent and uniform quality through automatic bolt position recognition and error correction.
Including the Smart Construction Challenge in 2024, Samsung C&T has won a total of five awards over the past three years: four top innovation awards and one innovation award. In particular, it has continued to prove its capabilities in smart technologies by consecutively winning top innovation awards solely in the construction robot field.
◇ "RAEMIAN Robot Week 2025" held … full-fledged ecosystem for housing construction robots
In Oct. last year, at the reconstruction site of Banpo District 3 in Seoul, Samsung C&T held "RAEMIAN Robot Week 2025" and unveiled five housing construction robots: ▲ autonomous driving forklifts ▲ material-handling robots ▲ cleaning robots ▲ sprinkling drones ▲ wearable robots.
The autonomous driving forklift and the material-handling robot transport materials automatically at night when there is no work on site, minimizing interference with daytime processes and improving work efficiency. The autonomous driving forklift recognizes pallets stacked on site on its own and carries materials to designated locations, after which the material-handling robot loads the distributed materials, calls and boards the elevator, and transports and unloads them inside apartment units.
In addition, demonstrations showed maintaining a pleasant work environment with cleaning robots and sprinkling drones that reduce dust generated during demolition or from particulates, and introduced various AI-based smart construction technologies such as a shoulder-strength assist wearable robot that lowers musculoskeletal strain for workers performing long hours of overhead tasks.
Samsung C&T plans to continue developing specialized robots optimized for construction sites to improve productivity and eliminate worker safety risks, and to raise completeness through repeated demonstrations at ongoing domestic and overseas sites.
◇ Tailored safety education solutions for foreign workers… AI tutor supports 40 languages
Samsung C&T is also working to break down language barriers at construction sites and prevent accidents based on AI solution–driven safety education for foreign workers.
In Apr., through the open innovation program "2025 FutureScape," the company successfully completed a pilot project providing an integrated AI solution for safety education to foreign workers employed by partner firms at active sites, in collaboration with "HiLocal," which was selected through the program. The solution integrates ▲ AI multilingual translation (supporting 40 countries) ▲ real-time image translation ▲ an AI tutor function for safety education to prevent serious accidents.
As a result of the pilot, STT (speech-to-text) accuracy and translation accuracy both averaged over 80%, and the education satisfaction levels of workers from the three main nationalities—Vietnam, Nepal, and Uzbekistan—met their targets, verifying tangible, on-site effects and technological capability.
Going forward, by analyzing content responses by country and further reflecting and improving language comprehension and cultural differences, the company plans to raise the level of safety management at construction sites by a notch.
◇ From a residents-only home platform to food delivery robots… future residential innovation through AI and robot technology
Breaking away from the traditional construction-centered business, Samsung C&T is leading a platform business that integrates various solutions such as Generative AI and IT technologies, expanding its soft business and striving to innovate user experience.
Launched in Aug. 2023, the home platform "HOMENIC" has established itself as the new standard for apartment living. HOMENIC is an integrated home platform that, along with digital smart home services, allows users to access all residential services at once, including cultural activities and health management. After its first application at the One Bailey complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, it has expanded not only to new complexes but also to existing residential complexes nationwide.
Through the Homeground menu, residents can check maintenance fees and participate in surveys, use communication features for the residents' representative council, and enjoy a convenient and secure access environment with the advanced security system "HOMENIC One Pass." They can also experience various convenient functions, such as Internet of Things (IoT) device control, community facility reservations, and an AI parking service.
In the Life Inside menu, a communication board supports community activities where residents share hobbies and interests, and through Homenicers Club, HOMENIC Tool Share, and Apartment Care, it offers goods and services needed for residential life at reasonable prices.
In addition, starting with a collaboration with Hanwha's construction division in Dec. 2024, the company has formed strategic partnerships with other branded apartments such as Doosan Engineering & Construction Co., HS Hwasung, and SK ecoplant, creating continual synergies as HOMENIC's adoption expands.
◇ Expanding operation of food delivery robots to apartment unit doorways
Samsung C&T is expanding the innovative autonomous driving delivery robot service that delivers food to apartment unit doorways, integrated with the delivery platform "Yogiyo."
In 2025, focusing on the Raemian Leaders One complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, the company completed service validation of food delivery robots in collaboration with the autonomous driving robot company Neubility. It solved technical issues such as integration for automatic opening and closing of common entrance doors and elevator calling, which are key prerequisites for food delivery robot services within apartment complexes. It also established a door-to-door commercial service in which robots deliver to each unit's front door by reaching agreements with the residents' representative council and the management office.
Starting this year, the company is expanding the food delivery robot service that had been operated around the Raemian Leaders One complex. By integrating with the delivery platform "Yogiyo," the coverage will expand to about 130 food and beverage establishments within a 1.2-kilometer radius.
The food delivery robot travels autonomously at a normal walking speed, ensuring safe movement within the complex, and only the customer who placed the order can pick up the delivered food. It can also reduce issues such as risks from delivery vehicles moving inside the complex and conflicts over outsider entry, resulting in a 95% satisfaction rate among residents who used the food delivery robot service during the pilot period.
◇ Goal to implement AI-centered work intelligence across all areas of construction by 2028
In Nov. last year, Samsung C&T presented a roadmap to transform into an "AI-native" construction company in which all work processes and employees' decision-making are based on AI. The Samsung C&T data team unveiled the results of three major "AI agent" projects co-developed with AWS (Amazon Web Services), a global cloud computing company.
Oh Se-chul, president and CEO of Samsung C&T, said, "AI's role is becoming even more important in construction, where projects are large and complex," and emphasized, "Let's connect our experience and data accumulated in numerous global projects with AI, recognize AI as a strategic partner, and create innovation together."
Samsung C&T plans to apply the newly developed "AI agents," including the AI-ITB Reviewer, to all construction projects starting this year, and to pursue a phased AI transition over the next three years to implement AI-centered work intelligence across the entire construction industry and build an AI platform.
