From innovative robot technologies that boost productivity and safety at construction sites to residential services that enhance customers' quality of life, Samsung C&T is leading a paradigm shift in the future construction industry by introducing artificial intelligence (AI) and Robotics technologies.
Samsung C&T won the top excellence award for the third straight year in the safety and dwellings categories at last year's Smart Construction Challenge hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, gaining recognition for its technology, and more recently has been taking the lead in building a robotic ecosystem for dwellings construction. The "LIFE (Lifting Indicator For Excavator) and monitoring system," which won the top innovation award in the safety management category at the 2024 Smart Construction Challenge, uses a real-time monitoring system with various sensors to immediately alert operators to hazardous situations during lifting and automatically prevent excessive lifting to avert accidents.
When a hazardous situation occurs, both the operator and the manager can check it in real time, and the system was developed to help instill safe work habits through later feedback. The "automated steel bolt-tightening robot," which won the top innovation award in the dwellings category, automates high-elevation structural fastening during steelwork to secure worker safety and was recognized for its high technological capability in enabling excellent, uniform construction quality through automatic bolt-position recognition and error correction.
Including last year's 2024 Smart Construction Challenge, Samsung C&T has won a total of five awards over the past three years: four top innovation awards and one innovation award. In particular, it has continued to prove its capabilities in smart technologies by consecutively winning top innovation awards solely in the construction robotics field.
◇ "RAEMIAN Robot Week 2025" held … robotic ecosystem for dwellings construction gains momentum
In Oct. last year, at the Banpo District 3 reconstruction site in Seoul, Samsung C&T held "RAEMIAN Robot Week 2025" and unveiled five types of dwellings construction robots: ▲ autonomous driving forklifts ▲ material-handling robots ▲ cleaning robots ▲ water-spraying drones ▲ wearable robots.
The autonomous driving forklift and the material-handling robot automatically transport materials at night when no work is underway on site, minimizing interference with daytime processes and improving efficiency. The autonomous driving forklift recognizes pallets stored on site and carries materials to designated locations, after which the material-handling robot loads the assigned materials, calls and boards the elevator, and transports and unloads them inside apartment units.
In addition, demonstrations showed cleaning robots and water-spraying drones reducing dust generated by particulate matter or demolition work to maintain a comfortable work environment, and unveiled various AI-based smart construction technologies such as shoulder strength-assist wearable robots that reduce musculoskeletal strain for workers performing prolonged overhead tasks.
Samsung C&T plans to continue developing specialized robots optimized for construction sites to improve productivity and eliminate worker safety risks, and to raise completeness through repeated validations at ongoing domestic and overseas sites.
◇ Customized safety training for foreign workers … AI tutor supporting 40 languages
Samsung C&T is also working to break down language barriers and prevent accidents at construction sites by providing safety education for foreign workers based on AI solutions.
In Apr., through the open innovation program "2025 FutureScape," Samsung C&T successfully completed a proof-of-concept safety education project providing an integrated AI solution—developed with "HiLocal"—for foreign workers employed by partner firms at active sites, offering ▲ AI multilingual translation (supporting 40 countries) ▲ real-time image translation ▲ an AI tutor for safety education to prevent serious accidents.
The proof-of-concept showed average accuracy above 80% for STT (speech-to-text) and translation, and verified tangible effectiveness and technical capability at actual sites, with education satisfaction among workers from the three main nationalities—Vietnam, Nepal, and Uzbekistan—all meeting target levels.
The plan is to further reflect and improve language comprehension and cultural differences by analyzing content responses by country, thereby elevating the level of safety management at construction sites.
◇ From a residents-only home platform to food-delivery robots … future residential innovation with AI and robot technology
Moving beyond the traditional construction-centered business, Samsung C&T is leading a platform business that integrates various solutions such as Generative AI and IT technologies, expanding its soft business and working to innovate user experience.
Launched in Aug. 2023, the home platform "HOMENICK" has established itself as a new standard for apartment living. HOMENICK is an integrated home platform that allows users to access all residential-life services—including digital smart home services as well as cultural activities and health management—at once. After its first application at the One Bailey complex in Seocho District, Seoul, it has expanded not only to new complexes but also to existing residential complexes nationwide.
Through the Homeground menu, residents can check maintenance fees and participate in surveys, use communication functions for the residents' representative council, and enjoy convenient and secure entry with the advanced security system "HOMENICK One Pass." They can also experience various convenience features such as Internet of Things (IoT) device control, community facility reservations, and AI parking services.
In the Life Inside menu, a communication board supports community activities where residents share hobbies and interests, and through HOMENICKers Club, HOMENICK tools, and apartment care, it provides goods and services needed for residential life at reasonable prices.
In addition, starting with a collaboration with Hanwha's construction division in Dec. 2024, Samsung C&T has formed strategic partnerships with other branded apartments such as Doosan Engineering & Construction Co., HS Hwasung, and SK ecoplant, creating ongoing synergies while expanding the adoption of HOMENICK.
◇ Expanding operation of food-delivery robots to apartment unit doorways
Samsung C&T, linked with the delivery platform Yogiyo, is expanding the operation of an innovative autonomous driving delivery robot service that delivers food to apartment unit doorways.
In 2025, focusing on the Raemian Leaders One complex in Seocho District, Seoul, Samsung C&T completed a service proof-of-concept for food-delivery robots in collaboration with autonomous driving robotics company Neubility. It solved technical issues such as integration for automatic opening and closing of common-entrance doors and elevator calling—key prerequisites for food-delivery robot services within apartment complexes. It also established a commercial door-to-door service in which robots deliver to each unit's front door, following agreements with the residents' representative council and the management office.
Starting this year, the food-delivery robot service, previously operated near the Raemian Leaders One complex, will be expanded. Linked with the delivery platform Yogiyo, the service area will grow to include about 130 food and beverage establishments within a 1.2-kilometer radius.
The food-delivery robot travels at a normal walking speed with autonomous driving, ensuring safe movement within the complex, and only the person who placed the order can pick up the delivered food. By reducing risks associated with delivery vehicles moving inside the complex and conflicts over outsider access, resident satisfaction with the food-delivery robot service reached 95% during the trial period.
◇ Goal to implement AI-centered work intelligence across all areas of construction by 2028
In Nov., Samsung C&T presented a roadmap to transform into an "AI-native" construction company, where every work process and employee decision-making is AI-based. The Samsung C&T data team unveiled results from three flagship "AI agent" projects co-developed with the global cloud computing firm AWS (Amazon Web Services).
Oh Se-chul, president and CEO of Samsung C&T, said, "AI's role is becoming even more important in construction, where project scale is large and complexity is high," adding, "Let's connect our accumulated experience and data from numerous global projects with AI, recognize AI as a strategic partner, and create innovation together."
Samsung C&T plans to apply the newly developed "AI agents," including the AI-ITB Reviewer, to all construction projects starting this year and promote a phased AI transition over the next three years to implement AI-centered work intelligence across the construction industry and build an AI platform.
