Taepyeongno Building, located near exit 8 of City Hall Station on Seoul Subway Line 1, will be transformed into a smart office through remodeling.

The Seoul city government said on the 29th that it convened the sixth architecture committee on the 28th and passed the architectural review for the "Seosomun District 1-2 Taepyeongno Building remodeling project." Taepyeongno Building, an office building completed in 1998 and about 28 years old, is pushing a remodeling project to establish a future-oriented work environment.

While keeping the existing building's use as office facilities, Taepyeongno Building will apply eco-friendly design to sharply cut energy consumption and build a smart work environment to improve usability and spatial efficiency. The site is an office facility with seven basement levels and 26 above-ground floors, and it plans to significantly reduce energy use by employing technologies that automatically control solar radiation, daylight, HVAC, and illuminance.

The building's exterior will adopt a full curtain wall method to create a sense of openness. The urban landscape around Seosomun-dong, where office facilities are concentrated, will also be improved. In addition to enhancing performance and aesthetics, the project will improve access to the publicly accessible open space connected to Sejong-daero People's Forest Road, provide a place to rest in the downtown area, and create a pedestrian environment that is organically connected with surrounding neighborhoods.

For the publicly accessible open space available when approaching on foot from the City Hall Station direction, a new accessible ramp connected to the main entrance has been added to improve access for people with limited mobility. Various plantings and rest facilities will also be installed to provide a comfortable resting space in the office-dense city center. A pedestrian path connecting Seosomun food alley and Sejong-daero will also be added to create an organically connected pedestrian environment between surrounding areas.
