Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) will jointly pursue an international greenhouse gas reduction project at the San Miguel landfill in Bolivia with SUDOKWON Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC) and Cheil Engineering Co.

The three institutions said on the 27th that they signed an MOU among participating organizations and agreed to push for joint project development at the signing ceremony for the Korea-Bolivia international greenhouse gas reduction project MOU held at the Plaza Hotel Seoul on the 24th.

The project includes funding to support the establishment of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and aims to break ground in 2027. The site is the San Miguel landfill in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where methane generated at the landfill will be captured and flared to reduce about 275,000 tons of greenhouse gases annually. Over 15 years of operation, the cumulative reduction is expected to reach about 4 million tons. The reduction results will be officially issued after third-party verification in accordance with international standards.

A KIND official said, "Through the Bolivia international greenhouse gas reduction project, we will export SLC's landfill operation technology and Korea's EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) capabilities overseas and transfer the reduction results to Korea to help achieve the Republic of Korea's 2035 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for greenhouse gas reductions."
