Hyundai Engineering & Construction said on the 24th it will push to introduce an unmanned shuttle based on demand responsive transport (DRT) to integrate resident travel in the Apgujeong redevelopment project.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction on this day unveiled plans to introduce a residents-only DRT service for the consolidation of Apgujeong districts 2, 3 and 5.
Apgujeong districts 2, 3 and 5 form a large complex of about 10,000 households that functions as a single living area. In particular, with a travel path of about 1.4 km from district 2 to the key points of districts 3 and 5, there has been a recognized need for an efficient means of travel that consolidates the inside and outside of the complex.
DRT is a transportation service in which vehicle routes are adjusted in real time based on user requests without fixed lines. Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to design a structure that reduces wait times, detours and walking by operating a customized system that reflects resident travel patterns.
According to the company's own analysis, travel time on the "Apgujeong district 5–Jamwon Hangang Park" section is shortened from about 20–45 minutes to about 10–14 minutes when using DRT. It is analyzed that travel efficiency improves by reducing the waiting that occurs during boarding and stopping.
Along with this, it plans to establish routes that consolidate Apgujeong Station, Apgujeong Rodeo Station, major department stores, the Hangang waterfront and community facilities within the complex, creating a system that integrates daily and leisure travel into one.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction earlier signed a business agreement with Hyundai Motor on "planning services specialized for the construction industry based on mobility," and is jointly planning travel services tailored to the characteristics of residential complexes. Hyundai Motor's "Shucle" service showed effects of reducing wait time by about 71% and walking time by about 88% in the verification process.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "If we enhance connectivity from community and commercial facilities within the complex to transport hubs and the Hangang, the living experience can change," adding, "We will develop Apgujeong into a living area designed for travel."
