Hyundai Engineering said on Apr. 17 that it has completed the urban renewal redevelopment project for Gongpyeong districts 15 and 16 in Insadong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
"Gongpyeong districts 15 and 16" are located within walking distance of Jonggak Station on subway Line 1 and Jongno 3-ga Station on Lines 1, 3, and 5. The development consists of two office and commercial buildings ranging from eight floors underground to a maximum of 25 stories above ground. The total construction cost is 360 billion won.
This project is the first to apply the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "urban and architectural innovation plan," adopting a mixed renovation method with both the public and private sectors participating. Before construction, a cultural heritage survey identified cultural layers from the early Joseon period to modern times, and more than 1,600 metal movable type pieces of the Hunminjeongeum were unearthed. Accordingly, an urban heritage exhibition hall was created on the first basement level, and the lower floors were opened to the public to secure both public interest and symbolism.
A Hyundai Engineering official said, "Gongpyeong districts 15 and 16 are a symbolic project where historicity and modern architecture are in harmony," adding, "We will continue to supply competitive prime offices based on our office building capabilities."
