A 43-story mixed-use residential and commercial building will rise in front of Gangdong Station on Seoul Subway Line 5.
Gangdong District Office said on the 10th that a district unit plan to promote the "Gangdong Station B station area revitalization project" for the area around 179 Seongnae-dong was finalized and publicly announced on the 9th.
The site is an area where the project is underway through a regional housing association model and was selected as a station area revitalization project site in Nov. 2023. It then passed the review of the Seoul City Urban and Architecture Joint Committee in Dec. last year.
The site will feature a complex of seven basement levels to 43 above-ground floors (under 150 meters tall), with a total floor area of about 68,000 square meters. It will include 348 apartment units, a public postnatal care center, a Seoul-style kids' cafe, and other needed local facilities. The establishment of a city-run public postnatal care center will be the first among district governments and will be operated entirely with the Seoul city budget.
Linked development effects can also be expected with the nearby "Gangdong Station A (19-1 Seongnae-dong) station area revitalization project." The Gangdong Station A station area revitalization project calls for building 818 apartment units, 266 officetel rooms, and facilities such as a swimming pool and an ice rink, and the integrated review has been completed. An underground passage is planned to connect from the Gangdong Station B project site to the A project site.
Gangdong District Chief Lee Su-hee said, "This public notice of the decision is an important starting point for transforming the Gangdong Station area into a key hub for the future," adding, "We will continue to create a livable city that residents can feel through systematic, station-centered development."
