The city of Seoul and the Seoul Housing and Urban Development Corporation (SH) said on the 6th that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) of Singapore to cooperate on smart construction technology.
Under the agreement, the three institutions will pursue: ▲ sharing best practices and technical knowledge related to the digital transition of public construction and urban development ▲ promoting exchanges and linkages of technologies related to smart construction ▲ developing the technology ecosystem by sharing policy, technical, and operational experience.
SH set "implementing smart construction innovation" as a strategic goal in its "2026–2030 mid- to long-term management plan," and is working to improve construction productivity and enhance quality and safety levels through its "smart construction technology innovation plan."
This agreement follows that policy direction, and SH expects it will serve as a springboard to grow into a public institution with international competitiveness beyond Korea.
To achieve the strategic goal of "implementing smart construction innovation," SH is pursuing tasks such as innovation in future construction technology and design, strengthening an integrated construction management system, and leading safety management at construction sites. The "smart construction technology innovation plan" is a phased implementation plan consisting of five areas: ▲ eco-friendly architecture ▲ off-site construction (OSC) ▲ artificial intelligence (AI) ▲ robots ▲ building information modeling (BIM).
Hwang Sang-ha, president of SH, said, "This agreement will serve as a critical turning point to accelerate innovation in public construction based on smart construction technology and secure world-class competitiveness," adding, "We will continue to enhance our technological capabilities through international cooperation and take the lead in building a sustainable construction ecosystem."
