Sampyo Group held a special lecture for all employees across its affiliates to secure breakthrough quality competitiveness amid the rapidly changing construction environment and to accelerate ESG (environmental, social and governance) management.
Sampyo Group, a company specializing in basic construction materials, said on the 30th that it held a special lecture on the 27th at the learning center on the sixth floor of the Ima Building in Seoul under the theme "Construction trends for securing the quality of construction materials."
The special lecture was arranged as part of the in-house training program Quality Academy within the group. It was conducted under the subtitle "Sustainable growth, Sampyo quality mindset that creates value beyond simple manufacturing."
The lecture, given by Yang Hyun-min, a professor in the School of Smart Convergence Engineering at Hanyang University ERICA and an expert in construction materials in Korea, focused on devising preemptive strategies that turn crises into opportunities. The detailed curriculum comprised three core topics: ▲ recent issues in construction material quality and carbon neutrality ▲ measures to secure construction material quality ▲ measures to realize carbon neutrality in construction materials.
Professor Yang cited insufficient material quality, including concrete compressive strength, as a common cause of recent successive collapses of large structures and emphasized the need for thorough quality control. He also shared in detail the increasingly strict quality regulation trends at construction sites—such as mandatory measurement of concrete unit water content and placement guidelines during rain and snow—and practical response measures.
There was also an in-depth discussion on "carbon neutrality," which has emerged as a survival task for the construction industry. Alongside efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the cement manufacturing process (clinker calcination), the lecture highlighted the importance of White Carbon, which injects carbon dioxide during concrete production to generate calcium carbonate, increase strength, reduce cement usage and lower carbon emissions, drawing significant attention from attendees.
Sampyo Group plans to continuously educate junior-level employees, who will be the driving force of future growth, on the latest industry trends and advanced quality control techniques to raise members' expertise and firmly establish a companywide "quality-first" culture.
