Kumho E&C said on the 30th that it won the "Geyang–Ganghwa expressway construction project (Section 4)" ordered by Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC).
The "Geyang–Ganghwa expressway construction project" is a key transportation network project for the northwestern Seoul metropolitan area that links Ganghwa Island in Incheon and Geyang. It will be developed as a national arterial road network extending from Sangya-dong, Geyang-gu, Incheon, through Geomdan New Town and Gimpo Hangang New Town to Ganghwa-eup, Ganghwa County.
In particular, as infrastructure that connects major development hubs in the northwestern metropolitan area such as Gimpo Hangang New Town, Geomdan New Town, and Incheon Geyang Technovalley, it is expected to help distribute new town travel demand and improve regional accessibility.
Kumho E&C will carry out construction on the 4.26-kilometer section from Masan-dong to Nusang-ri, Yangchon-eup, Gimpo, which is Section 4 among the seven sections in total. The section includes nine bridges and one Yangchon Hi-Pass IC and is planned to be built as a four-lane road in both directions.
The total construction cost is about 167.6 billion won, with Kumho E&C participating as the lead firm holding 85% equity and Ilsin Construction Co., Ltd. jointly participating with 15% equity. The construction period is 84 months from the start date.
This project, with a total project cost of about 3.3 trillion won, is a large-scale undertaking to build a 29.9-kilometer route with four to six lanes in both directions. The entire section is divided into seven parts and is targeted to open in 2032.
Once completed, the regional transportation network in the northwestern metropolitan area will be further strengthened, dispersing traffic concentrated on existing roads and helping ease congestion in key areas such as Gimpo and Geomdan. In particular, as a core route linking Ganghwa Island in Incheon and Geyang, the current travel time of more than one hour between Ganghwa and Geyang is expected to be reduced to around 20 minutes.
A Kumho E&C official said, "As this is a long-awaited project for the northwestern metropolitan area, we plan to carry it out with a strong sense of responsibility," adding, "Based on our technology in roads and bridges and our project execution capabilities, we will do our best to build high-quality road infrastructure through systematic construction and process management."
