Minister Kim Yun-duk of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the afternoon of the 30th presented a letter of appointment to Park Chang-geun, head of the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS), at the Government Complex Sejong in Eojin-dong, Sejong.
The Minister emphasized to Park Chang-geun, head of the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS), that "because protecting the lives and safety of the public is the country's greatest reason for being, do your utmost to manage safety at construction sites and infrastructure to prevent accidents."
The Minister said that last year there were many unfortunate accidents, including a bridge under construction collapsing and sinkholes forming, and added, "This year, please become a watchdog protecting construction sites and infrastructure across the land so that such accidents are not repeated," and "The role of the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS) is significant for the public's safe daily life. Concentrate all capabilities on the safety of the entire land."
The Minister also stressed that it is time to shift from manpower-centered inspections to advanced technology. The Minister said, "By introducing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, we need innovation in work methods to supplement the limits of visual inspections, identify risk factors early, and prevent accidents."
In addition, the Minister, regarding the green remodeling support project among the duties of the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS), said, "In the era of climate crisis, efforts toward carbon neutrality are an obligation for future generations and thus an important task," and directed, "There are limits to the existing support methods, so prepare effective promotional measures that can lead to changes in public awareness."
