Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) said on the 12th that it conducted a demonstration test of fire protection systems to respond to electric vehicle fires in underground parking lots. The test was carried out to secure empirical data on the actual fire control effect of the improved sprinkler system after the fire safety performance standard regulations were revised last year.
The test conducted on the 11th at the Construction Fire Energy Research Institute in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon, proceeded with three scenarios that assumed increased fire severity, such as sprinkler detector failure and valve malfunction. Based on the empirical data obtained through the test, LH plans to verify the electric vehicle fire response effectiveness of key firefighting facilities—sprinklers and hose-reel hydrants—and establish safe fire protection standards.
Oh Joo-heon, head of LH's Public Housing Headquarters, said, "We will actively cooperate with relevant agencies so that reasonable and safe fire protection standards can be established based on the objective empirical data secured through this demonstration test," adding, "LH will continue to do its best to create a residential environment where the public can live with peace of mind."
