Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on the 5th that it officially replied to the Public Procurement Service on the 4th that it intends to take part in the negotiated contract for the Gadeokdo New Airport site development project.
The Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Authority issued two bid notices for the Gadeokdo New Airport site development project, but after the bids failed with only the Daewoo Engineering & Construction consortium submitting a lone bid, it decided on the 24th of last month to switch the project to a negotiated contract under the National Contract Act. Accordingly, the Public Procurement Service notified that Daewoo Engineering & Construction is the "sole applicant and qualified bidder" and asked whether it intended to conclude a negotiated contract.
With Daewoo Engineering & Construction officially replying that it intends to proceed with a negotiated contract, the Gadeokdo New Airport construction project is expected to speed up.
Daewoo Engineering & Construction plans to push follow-up negotiations and contract procedures quickly and systematically through close consultations with the Public Procurement Service. In addition, to lay the groundwork for an early start, it will open a joint office with participating partners and begin full-scale project preparations by strengthening pre-checks across design, construction, quality, and safety.
Daewoo Engineering & Construction plans to derive the optimal basic design by closely analyzing the pros and cons of alternative construction methods such as changing the reclamation method and the dredging replacement method to address concerns about ground subsidence and meet the construction schedule, and by obtaining multiple opinions from external experts. The basic design will proceed for about six months in compliance with the period set in the request for proposals, after which it will move to the detailed design phase. If subsequent procedures proceed smoothly, it is expected that priority construction work could break ground by the end of this year.
The Gadeokdo New Airport site development project is a core infrastructure project for balanced national development and for building a gateway airport for the southeastern region, with a total budget of about 10.7174 trillion won.
