Korea Real Estate Board (REB) said on the 25th that Lee Heon-uk took office as the 17th new president. The term is three years from the date of appointment.
Born in 1968, Lee graduated from Busan Pniel High School and Seoul National University College of Engineering. Afterward, Lee passed the 40th bar exam in 1998 and served as president of Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation, among other roles.
During his tenure as president of Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation, in line with the policy direction of then-Gyeonggi Gov. Lee Jae-myung, he developed the basic housing policy, a universal long-term public rental housing model, and broadly handled real estate policy across public housing supply and urban development, making him a real estate expert with wide-ranging experience, according to the Korea Real Estate Board (REB).
At the inauguration ceremony that day, Lee said, "Real estate is the foundation of people's lives and a core base for balanced development across society and sustainable growth," adding, "As a public institution that connects the public and the government, we will further strengthen our responsibility and role."
Lee went on to say, "To systematically carry out tasks across the real estate sector, we will reexamine and innovate our organization, work methods, and frameworks of thinking," emphasizing, "We will leap forward as a brain institution that substantively realizes the constitutionally guaranteed right to housing and the value of balanced national land development."
Lee also noted his determination to innovate based on expertise and accountability, saying, "Before performance, we will set the direction straight and establish an organizational culture that respects the field and data."
