Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH)'s purchases of homes damaged by jeonse scams are approaching 6,000 units. Since the start of this year, the monthly average purchase has reached 900 units, and the pace of acquisitions is gradually accelerating.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 5th that LH's purchases of homes damaged by jeonse scams totaled 5,889 units as of Jan. 27.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and LH are speeding up purchases of homes damaged by jeonse scams by holding purchase review meetings, implementing a fast track, and continuing consultations with district courts on proceeding with auctions. In the first half of last year, the monthly average purchase was only 163 units. However, the monthly average rose to 655 units in the second half of the same year, and 892 units were purchased in January this year.
MOLIT is also expanding support for victims of jeonse scams. MOLIT said on the 5th that it held three full meetings of the "Jeonse Scam Victim Support Committee" last month, reviewed 1,135 cases, and finally approved a total of 540 cases as jeonse scam victims, among others.
Of the 540 approved cases, 487 were new applications, including reapplications. In 53 cases, objections were filed to the previous decisions, and after additional confirmation of whether the criteria for jeonse scam victims were met, they were determined to be jeonse scam victims or victims, among others.
Of the remaining 595 cases, 366 were rejected for failing to meet the criteria, and 86 were excluded because the full deposit could be returned through guarantee insurance and the highest-priority repayment, among others. In addition, 143 objections were dismissed because they were still deemed not to meet the criteria.
To date, the committee has finally determined a cumulative total of 36,449 cases as jeonse scam victims, among others, and issued a cumulative total of 1,101 decisions requesting cooperation to defer urgent forced sales and auctions. For the determined victims, among others, a cumulative total of 57,202 cases of support have been provided for housing, finance, legal procedures, and more.
