Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) filed a damages lawsuit worth about 170 billion won against GS Engineering & Construction over the collapse of an underground parking lot at an apartment complex in Geomdan, Incheon.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure on the 27th, LH filed a damages lawsuit against GS Engineering & Construction with the Seoul Central District Court on the 12th. The claimed amount is 173.84269 billion won.
LH said the civil damages claim was filed to hold the builder responsible in connection with the collapse of the underground parking lot at the Geomdan apartment construction site in Incheon. In April 2023, an underground parking lot collapsed at the construction site of the Geomdan New Town AA13-2 block apartments being built by GS Engineering & Construction. A Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport probe found that due to design errors and missing construction work, shear reinforcement bars for some underground parking lot columns were omitted. GS Engineering & Construction at the time took responsibility for the incident and decided to rebuild the entire complex from scratch.
GS Engineering & Construction said it "plans to respond proactively through legal procedures."
