On the 22nd, former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Choi In-ho was selected as the final candidate for the new president of the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG).
According to HUG, at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders held that morning, Choi, among multiple candidates for president, was selected as the final candidate for the new president. After a recommendation for appointment by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the president's approval, Choi will be appointed as the official president. The term is three years from the date of inauguration.
Choi previously served as a lawmaker representing Saha-gap in Busan in the 20th and 21st National Assembly. From Aug. 2022 to May 2024, Choi served as a secretary of the National Assembly's Land Infrastructure and Transport Committee. HUG said former president Yoo Byung-tae resigned voluntarily last June after receiving "inadequate" (grade D) in the public institution management evaluation for two consecutive years, and the corporation has since been operating under an acting president system.
