Daewoo E&C will work with South Jeolla Province to build an ultra-large AI data center with a total power intake capacity of 500MW.
Daewoo E&C said on the 16th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for "AI data center construction" at the South Jeolla Provincial Government Office with 11 public and private entities, including South Jeolla Province, Jangseong County, Gangjin County, Benepos Co., KT and Top Solar.
Under the agreement, plans will be pushed to build AI data centers with capacities of 200MW and 300MW in Jangseong County and Gangjin County, South Jeolla, respectively. South Jeolla has been reviewed as a candidate site given that it produces abundant renewable energy such as solar and wind power, providing conditions to support the electricity demand of data centers.
Daewoo E&C will participate as the consortium's key construction partner, taking part in the entire engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) process. Daewoo E&C previously participated in the Empyrion Digital AI Campus project in southern Seoul and the Pine Data Center project in Jangseong, South Jeolla. For the Jangseong Pine Data Center, the company joined as both an equity investor and a constructor, building project experience.
A Daewoo E&C official said, "By combining South Jeolla's locational competitiveness with Daewoo E&C's data center construction know-how, we will build world-class AI infrastructure and help strengthen the nation's AI competitiveness."
