The Gwangmyeong Sinansan Line construction accident investigation committee will extend the investigation period to determine the cause of the collapse in section 5-2 of the Gwangmyeong Sinansan Line that occurred on Apr. 11 last year until Apr. 30.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 13th, the committee decided at its 18th plenary meeting on the 8th that additional investigation and an extension of the investigation period are necessary to conduct an in-depth verification of the direct cause of the accident and to derive an objective collapse scenario. The committee had originally planned to conduct the investigation from Apr. 17 last year to the 14th of this month.
The committee plans to work with external expert institutions to carry out precise structural analyses of various collapse scenarios to identify the direct cause of the accident. So far, the committee has held plenary meetings (18), on-site inspections (6), hearings of related parties (4), meetings with related agencies (1), and commissioned investigations and research by external expert institutions (2).
Chairperson Son Murak of the committee said, "We are working to identify an objective cause of the accident that anyone can accept through thorough engineering analysis and verification," and added, "We will faithfully conclude the investigation during the remaining period and announce the investigation results and measures to prevent a recurrence in Apr. '26."
