DL E&C said on the 7th that the "paint technology to improve durability of apartment housings," co-developed with KANGNAM JEVISCO, has obtained certification as "new construction technology" from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT). This is the first time a paint-related technology has been certified as new construction technology by the ministry. The new construction technology certification is a system in which the ministry certifies technologies that are the first to be developed in Korea or that improve existing technologies and are deemed to have novelty, advancement, and on-site applicability.
This new paint technology is drawing attention as a core technology to realize long-life dwellings by dramatically enhancing the durability of concrete structures. Applying the new technology to the exterior walls of apartment housings can extend the life of concrete more than fivefold compared with conventional methods. Repair work and repainting cycles due to exterior wall damage are expected to be significantly reduced.
The core of the new technology is the paint's own elasticity and waterproofing function. Ordinary exterior wall finishes damage concrete over time due to cracks and leaks. In contrast, the new technology uses highly elastic materials to suppress crack formation and blocks moisture penetration with excellent waterproof performance. This greatly slows the rate of concrete deterioration and helps maintain the durability of structures over a long period.
DL E&C has developed this new technology since 2021 in collaboration with KANGNAM JEVISCO. It is the result of joint technology development and research support activities carried out to strengthen partner companies' competitiveness and practice mutual growth. DL E&C combined its expertise in architectural design and construction with KANGNAM JEVISCO's paint technology and material development capabilities to implement an optimal solution. With this technology, they obtained a patent in Sept. 2021 and a technology certification from the Korea Concrete Institute in Nov. 2022, followed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) new construction technology certification this time.
DL E&C and KANGNAM JEVISCO have already applied the new technology to the ACRO and e-Pyeonhansesang dwellings brands and are carrying out construction. With this certification securing the product's credibility, they plan to expand sales from other companies' new apartment construction sites to existing apartments and concrete buildings.
A DL E&C official said, "The paint technology to improve durability of apartment housings is an eco-friendly technology that can reduce social expense for building maintenance and extend service life, thereby contributing to reducing construction waste and carbon emissions," adding, "It will be an opportunity to change the paradigm of the residential environment, going beyond the simple development of new materials."
