A man in his 60s died after being struck by falling debris at a Dongbuk Line construction site in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun District, Seoul.
According to police on the 29th, at about 10:41 a.m. a rockslide occurred at the urban rail Dongbuk Line construction site in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun District, Seoul. A man in his 60s who was working at the site was hit by the falling debris and taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest, but died at about 12:10 p.m.
Kumho E&C, the contractor for the site, said in an apology letter signed by CEO Cho Wan-seok, "Kumho E&C's CEO and all executives and employees offer our deepest condolences and sincere apology to the bereaved families who lost a beloved family member in this sudden accident." It added, "Immediately after the accident, we not only halted all processes at the site, but also immediately stopped all similar processes at sites nationwide," and promised, "We will fully cooperate with investigations by the relevant authorities and pursue necessary measures to prevent a recurrence."
Kumho E&C added, "We will spare no company-level support to help ease, even a little, the pain the bereaved families are experiencing, and we will maintain ongoing communication."
